History

In 2004 two restless creatives joined forces: Ana Digón from Greenheart Ibiza and Andrea Papadacos, actress and educator. Both wished to convey to young children messages of love and respect for our Planet, as well as practical and accessible ways of reducing our individual and collective ecological footprint. The result has been three educational campaigns in Ibiza and Formentera, completely free of charge for participants, with the support of the Island Council, the Balearic Government and various local municipalities of the Pitiusas islands.

The aim: to help educate more and more Guardians of the Planet, who enjoy our Planet! … while we care for it… Each event would always end with a very symbolic and at the same time practical action: planting a young tree at the venue of the event, surrounded with flowers and aromatic plants to accompany and aid its growth

“Días de Alegría” (Happy Days)

in Summer 2005: a total of 17 events at beaches and play areas of the islands, attracting both resident and visiting children, during which many different games and activities were offered: artistic creations with paints made out of things from the fridge, sculptures made with recycled materials, puppets, music, story-telling, garbage-treasure hunts, masks and costumes… often with the guest appearance of a giant 3-metre puppet built by El Industrial… entirely out of empty plastic bottles!

This campaign was financed by the Department of Citizen’s Participation of the Island Council, through the Foundation for the Future

“Navidad con Corazón” (Xmas from the Heart)

In the winter of 2005 the team visited a total of 9 schools, offering activities to help create useful presents from domestic waste materials, through sessions full of fun and information.

This campaign was financed by the municipal Council of San Antonio through the Foundation for the Future

“Huellas” (Footprints)

Throughout the Winter and Spring of 2006: artistic duo Ola Kalá and Ana Greenheart visited 37 schools of the Pitiusas islands with an ambitious and stimulating programme. Games, theatre, comedy, science, and lots of hilarious improvisation served to convey the idea that our actions have repercussions, that our daily choices have effects that can be measured, and therefore reduced: our “ecological footprint”.

This campaign was financed by the Departments of Citizen’s Participation and Environment of the Island Council, and by the Balearic Government through the Foundation for the Future

In these three campaigns a long list of educators and artists from different backgrounds have participated. The artistic core all the way through has been the duet formed by Andrea Papadacos and Silvina I. Sodano: Ola Kalá.

Our most warm and heartfelt gratitude to all of them, for their work, dedication and enthusiasm!

We have also been accompanied through these adventures by various local media, promoting our activities and our message: many thanks to Diario de Ibiza, Ultima Hora, TEF TV, Ibicasa magazine, Radio Sonica and radio host Agustín Prades, amongst others.

After having planted 75 trees and innumerable seeds of awareness, Andrea sailed off towards new adventures, and Greenheart Resonancia continued searching for new ways of contacting with school children on the island to transmit a sense of belonging to this huge and generous macro-organism that is our Mother Earth, Gaia, and to facilitate a message of active commitment and joy of living.

As well as these three campaigns, since the beginning of 2006 Casita Verde ecological centre has been hosting school visits, and even groups of disabled people through the Social Services department, with great success every time. However, the cost of these visits had to be covered by the visitors, which makes it impossible for most to be able to enjoy this activity.

With the aim of receiving all the schools who wish to visit the beautiful and educational centre that is Casita Verde, this time two Greenheart team members joined forces: Ana Digón and Danny Law, who has been in charge of the development and maintenance of the centre since the end of 2006. From this union comes forth “Cycles”, a campaign that intends to inspire and stimulate schoolchildren in Ibiza to become better Guardians of the Planet than many of their predecessors have been and are being.
